This is an original 1880s manufactured stamped miners dynamite drilling spoon stamped washoe these unique miners tools are usually only found underground in abandon mines but this one and a few others came out of a large mining estate sale in reno nevada and were no doubt sold to be used in mines ni and around virginia city, nevada. I have owned countless miners picks stamped washoe but these stamped washoe miners spoons are the only ones i have ever seen or herd of. This spoon was manufactured from 3/8 round stock and 36 long. It has a very nice deep bowl and the workmanship and stamping are excellent. In the 1880s when drilling was done by hand teh miners spoon was used to clean out the drill holes before inserting the dynamite. The miner would insert the spoon with the bowl up until he reached the end of the hole. He would then turn the spoon 180 degrees thus trapping the loose rock and pulling it out of the hole. The other end has a four sided point to break up small chunks fo rock.
